Know What To Look For

To find the bedbugs, you have to know what you are looking for. Bedbugs that have been crushed will leave a small brown stain. Live bedbugs are about the same size at the tip of a pen, are oval and can range in color from reddish-brown to purple. Eggs and the molted skin of a bedbug will be clear in color and almost too small to notice with the naked eye.

Check The Entire Room

These small bugs can take residence in more than just the bed sheets. They can survive in the walls, in the carpets and almost anywhere else in a given room. As long as they have a food source, they can grow and survive almost anywhere. As they reproduce quickly, their numbers can jump substantially in just a few days.

Look Around For Droppings

Bedbug droppings are a sure sign that the room is infested or has been infested in the past by bedbugs. Their droppings will resemble ink or a small coffee stain on a carpeted surface. If you see anything resembling these markings on the floor, it is a good sign that the room hasn't been cleaned recently. You could have even larger problems than just bedbugs.

Don't Forget Your Flashlight

As bedbugs are not easy to see with the naked eye, you should bring the tools necessary to see them. A magnifying glass or a flashlight are both useful tools in locating bedbug infestations. Using a flashlight can be a good idea to find bedbugs because they are mostly active at night when it is dark outside.

You will know if you have been bitten by bedbugs if your skin is itchy and has blotchy red sores on your arms and legs. The easiest way to prevent being bitten is to find them before they find you. Make sure that you check the bedding, the walls and other surfaces where bedbugs could enter a room. If you find any signs of an infestation, contact an exterminator immediately.
